Best of Bicheno

Cradled by the Douglas-Apsley National Park to the North and Freycinet National Park to the South with breathtaking beaches in between, Bicheno is a place of rich maritime history, abundant wildlife and renowned coastal produce. This tour takes you from granite boulders, a sea cave geyser, jaw dropping coastal views framed by orange-lichen rocks, a behind the scenes southern rock lobster farmgate tour (and, seafood feast for lunch!), a private wildlife encounter and a final stop to sip and graze in the vines. Our most diverse tour yet, this really is the best of Bicheno.

Welcome to Bicheno! It’s time to find our bearings like seafarers of old at
the top of Whalers Lookout.

Perched high above Bicheno, a short ascent will lead us to two platforms offering breathtaking ocean and mountain views. But can you spot a migrating whale? Learn about Bicheno’s coastal history while absorbing this special location.

Next, we make our way to the iconic Bicheno Blowhole: a sea cave carved by nature into the granite rock which now thrills and entertains with its salt water eruptions.

Leaving this force of nature behind, we meander along the coastal path and allow ourselves to breathe in the salt air, learn about the coastal flora and fauna and take in the views. All the while, let your appetite grow as we head towards the next delicious stop.

Lobster Shack Tasmania’s Sara and Marcus Walkem both have seafood
in their DNA and salt water in their veins.

Both from Tasmanian seafood and fishing families, the couple opened Lobster Shack Tasmania in 2017 to give locals and visitors alike access to premium, local seafood. Sourced from the cool, clean waters of Tasmania, learn about the life cycle of the world-renowned southern rock lobsters and access a private tour of the farmgate with Sara or Marcus.

Head out to the deck for one of Australia’s most stunning lunch locations while you enjoy a seafood meal including the opportunity to dine on lobster or perhaps one of the famous Bicheno lobster rolls. Don’t forget to count how many seals you can see on Alligator Rock.

Feeling deliciously full, it’s time for a wildlife encounter at East Coast
Nature World, a unique place where animal conservation is at the
forefront.

Nestled among 150 acres of natural bushland and lagoons, we will enjoy a private tour of Nature World including a Tasmanian Devil feeding and a close encounter with two other animals. Get up close and personal with devils, quolls, wombats or other unique Australian animals and of course feed the friendly ‘roos! Make sure your camera is charged, this is an experience you will want to capture. Back on the bus, don’t forget to enjoy the views of Diamond Island, Redbill Beach and Waubs Beach as part of the journey.

The vines are calling and it’s time to wind down and relax at our final stop
of the day at Harvey Vin, a winery in the centre of Bicheno.

Harvey Vin is a boutique vineyard established in 2007. With only 750 vines the focus here is on quality not quantity and the result is a selection of excellent Tassie cool climate wines. Hear from owners Ben and Emilie while enjoying a delicious wine tasting; nibble on a platter from local business Prim & Platter and soak up some sun on the ocean-facing lawn while enjoying the famous Bicheno micro-climate.
